Baby olive ridley sea turtles make their way to the Pacific Ocean after hatching in an incubator and being released in El Astillero, Nicaragua, Tuesday, March 10, 2009. The project 'Coastal Zone' run by the Fauna and Flora International (FFI) conservation organization is promoting alternatives to local communities that have long depended on the sale of turtle eggs as a seasonal source of food and income. The project employs local people, often ex-poachers, as guards to patrol beaches and maintain hatcheries where clutches of eggs are protected in controlled conditions during incubation.

Allison, a rescued green sea turtle who has only one flipper, swims with the aid of a fin attached with neoprene at the Sea Turtle, Inc., in South Padre Island, Texas, Wednesday, April 8, 2009. Without the fin, developed at the turtle rescue facility, Allison can only swim in circles. The group had previously experimented with prosthetic flippers without luck.
